Rok Bavčar
Baritone Rok Bavčar, a native of Selo in the Vipava Valley, enrolled at the Secondary School of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana after completing lower music school in accordion and singing. He studied singing with Majda Luznik, Saška Kolarič, Tatjana Vasle, Janko Volčanšek, Irena Baar, and Vlatka Oršanić, and further refined his skills at vocal masterclasses with Professors Matjaž Robavs, Irena Baar, and Vlatka Oršanić. At the TEMSIG Young Musicians' Competition, he was awarded a silver and a gold plaque.
For several seasons he was a member of the RTV Slovenia Chamber Choir, later joining the Slovene Chamber Choir as both chorister and soloist, and since 2012 he has been engaged with the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana (Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana).
He has appeared on operatic stages in numerous solo roles, including: Ben (The Telephone), Bob (The Old Maid and the Thief), Villager (The Tender Giant), Carlo (The Black Masks), Security Guard (Love Capital), Doctor Grenvil and the Marquis d'Obigny (La Traviata), Lovro (The Nightingale of Gorenjska), Judge (Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball), Fiorello (The Barber of Seville), Narrator (The Shepherd), Herald (Otello), Schaunard (La Bohème), Marullo (Rigoletto), Yamadori (Madama Butterfly), Bertrand (Joan of Arc), Jailer (Tosca), Belcore (L'elisir d'amore), and Valentin (Faust). As a soloist, he has performed with the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, as well as the Croatian National Theatre Zagreb, and he is also a regular member of the Slovene Chamber Music Theatre and the Novo Mesto Institute. He has appeared as a soloist in several recitals for the Music Youth of Slovenia, at subscription concerts of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, and in performances with the Consortium Musicum Ljubljana Choir (Chansonette in the concert version of The Nightingale of Gorenjska) as well as in Sullivan's opera The Gondoliers or The King of Barataria).
He is also devoted to contemporary classical music and has participated in numerous world premières of works by Slovene composers, among them Junak našega časa (A Hero of Our Time, Tomaž Svete), Ada (Tomaž Svete), Pod svobodnim soncem (Under the Free Sun, Tom Kobe), Deseti brat (The Tenth Brother, Aleš Makovac), Antigona (Antigone, Tomaž Svete), and Julija (Julia, Aleš Makovac).
