Philippe Miesch
A graduate in architecture from the School of Strasbourg and in scenography from the Superior School of Dramatic Arts of the National Theatre of Strasbourg, Philippe Miesch became a pensionnaire at the Villa Medici, the French Academy in Rome. There, he developed set designs for Baroque opera projects and embarked on a career as a stage designer – a career he has continued to enrich ever since with numerous creations for opera, theatre, and ballet. Through collaborations with many directors, both in France and internationally, he has cultivated a rich and aesthetic universe. Moreover, he designs sets for exhibitions and museums, develops equipment for performance halls, and creates monumental sculptures for urban events. He was nominated for the Molière Award for Best Set Designer for Hôtel des Deux Mondes by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris. In recent seasons, he has designed, among other projects, the sets and costumes for Hamlet at the Nantes and Rennes Operas, as well as the sets for Lucia di Lammermoor and The Maid of d'Orléans at the Ljubljana Opera, both productions directed by Frank van Laecke, and the set design for Tosca, directed by Agnès Jaoui. He also designed the sets and costumes for Les Bains Macabres and for Armide at the Drottningholm Opera, directed by Florent Siaud.
He is currently preparing the sets and costumes for Tannhäuser at the Zagreb Opera, directed by Frank van Laecke, and for Madama Butterfly at the Toulon Opera.
