Peter Martinčič
Peter Martinčič is an opera and concert soloist – a bass. Since 2011 he has been a permanent member of the soloist ensemble of the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, and since 2021 he has held the title of Principal Artist of the theatre.
He studied solo singing at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, where he graduated with special distinction (summa cum laude). He further refined his skills with internationally renowned teachers, among them Harald Stamm, Alfred Burgstaller, Bernarda Fink, and Helena Lazarska. During his studies he received the Academy of Music’s Student Prešeren Award in Ljubljana, as well as a number of awards and recognitions at national and international vocal competitions.
As a soloist he has performed with various Slovenian and international orchestras under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductors from Slovenia and abroad, including Valerio Galli, Lu Jia, Jérémie Rhorer, Ayrton Desimpelaere, Marco Guidarini, David Švec, Emmanuel Villaume, Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski, Roberto Gianola, Anja Bihlmaier, Gianluca Martinenghi, Oliver Gilmour, Aleksandar Marković, Uroš Lajovic, Igor Švara, Loris Voltolini, Marko Hribernik, Simon Krečič, Simon Dvoršak, and others.
He has participated in opera productions in Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Norway, and Croatia. He has performed more than 40 operatic roles. Among the major ones are: Mefistofele (Mefistofele, Boito), Méphistophélès (Faust, Gounod), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Banquo (Macbeth), Count Walter (Luisa Miller), Ferrando (Il trovatore), Lodovico (Otello), Tom (Un ballo in maschera), Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Lindorf, Coppélius, Dapertutto, Dr. Miracle (The Tales of Hoffmann), Mustafà (L’italiana in Algeri), Basilio (The Barber of Seville), Escamillo (Carmen), Kecal (The Bartered Bride), Capellio (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Daland (The Flying Dutchman), Creon, Tiresias (Oedipus Rex), Štrukelj, the innkeeper (The Nightingale of Gorenjska), La Haine, L’Ombre d’Ardan Canil (Amadis de Gaule, Bach), Petruccio (Black Masks), the King, the Head Brigand (The Shepherd).
With the title role and his favourite role, Mefistofele in Boito’s opera of the same name, he successfully toured at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Italy. With Méphistophélès in Gounod’s Faust, he has appeared at the Wrocław Opera (Poland), at the Trondheim Festival (Norway), at SNG Maribor and HNK Zagreb, and most recently at the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana. In the current season he has also appeared in Toulon, France, performing the role of Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto.
