Nina Dominko

With her fiery, dynamic, and effortlessly playful singing, Nina Dominko captivates audiences both at home and abroad. Possessing a voluminous coloratura soprano, she reaches impressive vocal heights, illuminated by the velvet glow of angelic grace.

Among her compelling stage portraits are roles such as Olympia (J. Offenbach, The Tales of Hoffmann) and the Queen of the Night (W. A. Mozart, The Magic Flute). She has also appeared in roles including Sister Constance in Poulenc's The Dialogues of the Carmelites, Rosina in Rossini's comic opera The Barber of Seville, Norina in Donizetti's Don Pasquale, Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, Blonde in Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio, Adele in Strauss's operetta The Bat, the First Wood Nymph in Dvořák's lyrical opera Rusalka, and the Princess in Cui's fairy-tale opera Puss in Boots.

She is the recipient of numerous awards at singing competitions. In 2019, she earned third place at the International Singing Competition »Bellano, paese degli artisti« in Italy, and in 2018, she won the first prize at the International Singing Competition Lav Mirski in Osijek.  For her outstanding vocal performances on both opera and concert stages, she was awarded the Prešeren Student Prize in 2012. She was also a semi-finalist at the Ondina Otta International Singing Competition in Maribor in 2010. 

She completed her studies in singing at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under Professor Pija Brodnik, graduating with the outstanding distinction summa cum laude. She also completed studies in music pedagogy at the Faculty of Education in Maribor. She continues her additional training with prominent internationally acclaimed singers, including V. Garcia Sierra, B. Fink, M. Lipovšek, C. Spencer, and S. McCoy.

She has performed solo roles in Orff's scenic cantata Carmina Burana, Mozart's The Sparrow Mass in C major (Spatzenmesse, K. 220), Haydn's Missa brevis, and the chamber opera Imaginary Reality (Namišljena resničnost). As a soloist, she has also appeared with the Slovenian Military Orchestra and the Maribor SNT Symphony Orchestra at the Christmas and New Year Concert, at the Opera Night Concert in the City Park, and on a tour in Oderzo, Italy. With the Faculty of Arts Symphony Orchestra in Pecs, she performed as the Queen of the Night in a concert performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute at the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek.
