Monika Bohinec

Mezzo-soprano Monika Bohinec studied singing at the Mozarteum University Salzburg as well as at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Professor Claudia Visca. In 2006, she made her debut in the role of Clarissa (L'amour des trois oranges) at the Slovenian National Opera Theatre in Ljubljana. During the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, she was a member of the ensemble of the National Theatre in Mannheim. 

Since the 2011/12 season, she has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera, where she has appeared in roles such as Azucena (Il trovatore), Eboli (Don Carlo), Cassandra (Les Troyens), Fricka ( Das Rheingold and Die Walküre), Erda (Das Rheingold and Siegfried), Waltraute (Götterdämmerung), Sara (Roberto Devereux), Fenena (Nabucco), Mrs. Quickly (Falstaff), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Knusperhexe (Hänsel und Gretel), Ježibaba and the Foreign Princess (Rusalka), Polina (Pique Dame), the Alto Solo (Von der Liebe Tod), Auntie (Peter Grimes), Gora (Medea), among many others.

Her guest performances have taken her to major international stages, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Semperoper in Dresden, among others. There she has performed roles such as Amneris (Aida), Eboli (Don Carlo), Carmen, the Principessa di Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), Ortrud (Lohengrin), Fricka, Azucena, Ježibaba, Konchakovna (Prince Igor), Marina (Boris Godunov), Laura and Cieca (La Gioconda), and Giulietta (Les Contes dˋHoffmann).

This season, she will appear as a guest with the Berlin Philharmonic in Verdi’s Requiem and at the Baden-Baden Festival in Der Rosenkavalier.
