Mojca Bitenc
Soprano Mojca Bitenc has been engaged as soloist with the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana (Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana) since the 2024/2025 season, performing the roles of Mimì (La Bohème, Puccini), Violette Valéry (La Traviata, Verdi), Rosalinde (The Bat, J. Strauss II), and Manon (Manon Lescaut, Puccini). In Slovenian opera houses, she has portrayed numerous leading roles, including Pamina and Papageno (The Magic Flute, Mozart), Eurydice (Orpheus and Eurydice, Gluck), Liù (Turandot, Puccini), Ksenija (Ksenija, Parma), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni, Mozart), Antonia (The Tales of Hoffmann, Offenbach), Mařenka (The Bartered Bride, Smetana), Nedda (Pagliacci, Leoncavallo), Marguerite (Faust, Gounod), Micaëla (Carmen, Bizet), Lisa (The Land of Smiles, Lehár), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky), and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte, Mozart).
At the Zomeropera Summer Festival in Alden Biesen (Belgium), she appeared in the role of Tatyana (Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky). At the Bregenz Festival (Austria), she performed the role of Countess Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart), in 2017, and in 2018, she appeared on the festival's renowned floating stage as Micaëla (Carmen). She has also appeared as a guest at the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka, performing the roles of Maja (Opera after Kamov, Z. Juranić) and Nedda (Pagliacci), at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl, as Gerhilde (The Valkyrie, Wagner), and at the Frankfurt Opera, as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), earning high critical acclaim for her performances.
She was awarded the Prešeren Student Prize of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, as well as several prizes at international singing competitions, including the first prize at the Lav Mirski Competition in Osijek; the second prize in Nowy Sącz, Poland; the third prize at the Salzburg Mozart Competition, and the second Prize, as well as the Audience Award, the Best Soprano Prize, and the Prize for the Best Interpretation of a Mozart Work in Deutschlandsberg.
She completed her master's studies in singing at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, in the class of Barbara Jernejčič Fürst, and her postgraduate studies in singing at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, under Vlatka Oršanić, graduating with highest honours (summa cum laude). She further refined her artistry in masterclasses with Helena Lazarska, Vlatka Oršanić, and Brigitte Fassbaender, and as a scholarship holder of the International Summer Academy of the Vienna Opera under the guidance of Edda Moser. She also holds a degree from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana.
As a soloist, she collaborates with various orchestras and choirs, including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra and Choir of the Slovene Philharmonic, the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, the Orchestra of the Kraków Opera, and others. As a concert singer, Mojca Bitenc performs with numerous pianists and chamber ensembles.
