Matea Benedetti
She graduated in Textile and Fashion Design from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana and furthered her studies at the Academy of Arts in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She has received numerous international awards and has presented her work at the UNESCO Headquarters in New York, the Felissimo Design House galleries in New York, the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, as well as at fashion fairs in Milan, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Berlin, and Amsterdam.
Early in her career, she began collaborating with leading Slovenian and international directors and choreographers in theatres both in Slovenia and abroad, including M. Pograjc, N. Zavišić, B. Luna, V. Taufer, and J. Novak, as well as with opera houses in Italy and Germany.
Since 2012, she has collaborated regularly with director Manfred Schweigkofler. Together they have created productions of Kralj Kandavel at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo (2012), Rusalka at Teatro di San Carlo (2013), La Traviata in Cottbus (2014), Otello at Cankarjev dom (2016), Ksenija / Carmina Burana (2017), Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci (2020), and Manon Lescaut (2025) at SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana.
Her costume designs have appeared on the red carpets of the world’s most prestigious film events, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, and the Academy Awards. As a sustainable fashion designer, she collaborated through the Benedetti Life brand on the programme of GO! 2025.
