Marcello Lumaca
Marcello Lumaca is an Italian lighting designer based in Milan, with over thirty years of experience working worldwide in prestigious theatres and venues. He has collaborated with directors and artists in the performing arts, installations, and theatre performances. His collaborations include a twenty-year long partnership with Robert Wilson, contributing to shows and art installations such as Edda, Jungle Book, I Was Sitting on my Patio, The Tempest, Otello (Athens), Dorian, H – 100 Seconds to Midnight, UBU, A Chair And You, Waiting with Peace and Darkness, Turandot (Madrid, Paris, and Vilnius), Messiah (Barcelona), Three Tall Women, Pessoa – Since I Have Been Me, Moby Dick and many others over the years.
His collaboration as a lighting designer with directors Peter Greenaway and Saskia Boddeke for installations and performances includes The Blue Planet, Children of Uranium, Leonardo's Last Supper, The Marriage, and Rembrandt's Mirror. He also worked with opera director Silvia Paoli on Carmen for Teatro Regio Parma, as well as Aleko and Pagliacci. Additionally, he collaborated with Peter Stein on shows and international tours, including Heinrich von Kleist’s Penthesilea and Medea, and with architect Italo Rota as lighting designer for the exhibition C25 Option of Luxur. He also worked with director Derek Walcott, designing the lighting for Odyssey. In 2016, he designed the lighting for Looking for Marni, the launch event for Marni's eyewear collection. Since then, he has been designing lighting projects for Marni’s fashion shows and events worldwide. Further projects include collaboration with the architects and designers of CQS Studio on Before Design: Classic and Delightful for the Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week in 2016 and 2017.
