Konrad Kuhn

Konrad Kuhn studied theatre and comparative literature at the Free University in Berlin. From 1994 to 1999, he was a dramaturg at the Burgtheater in Vienna. In 1999, he turned to musical theatre. He worked with stage directors such as Luc Bondy, Achim Freyer, Claus Guth, Harry Kupfer, Damiano Michieletto, Alex Ollé, and Tobias Kratzer at venues including the Opéra national de Paris, Teatro Real Madrid, the Salzburg Festival, the Bayreuth Festival, Theater an der Wien, the State Operas in Berlin and Vienna, and Oper Leipzig. 

From 1999 to 2003, he was a dramaturg at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich; from 2009 to 2012, at the Opera House in Zurich; and since 2015, at Oper Frankfurt. In 2010, he began working with Robert Wilson on projects including Norma in Zurich, Verdi’s Macbeth in São Paulo and Bologna, La traviata in Linz and Perm, and Otello at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival; Adam’s Passion with music by Arvo Pärt in Tallinn; Handel’s Messiah in Mozart’s version in Salzburg; Bach 6 Solo at Festival d’Automne Paris; and dramatic theatre productions such as Ionesco’s Rhinoceros in Craiova, Romania, Oedipus Rex in Pompei and at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, as well as Dorian in Düsseldorf. Konrad Kuhn is also active as a translator and has taught at the University of Vienna and the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
