Silke Fischer
Silke Fischer was born in the south of Austria, in Graz. After attending fashion school, she studied Stage and Costume Design in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and completed her studies in Graz with excellent results, receiving the honorary award of the Art University of Graz.
Her first experience with dance came during her studies in the Netherlands, where she worked in the costume atelier of the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) in The Hague under the artistic direction of Jiří Kylián.
Right after completing her studies, she was appointed Costume Director of the Landestheater Linz in Austria at the age of 27. She worked on all opera, ballet, and drama productions over three seasons, from 2005 to 2007. During this time, she began her collaboration with Jörg Mannes, which later continued at the Staatsoper Hannover.
From then until 2015, she worked as a freelance stage and costume designer for various productions in opera, drama, and primarily ballet and dance. During this period, she collaborated with Marguerite Donlon, Jörg Mannes, Peter Breuer, Daniel Morales Pérez, Darrel Toulon, Catherine Guerin and Rosamund Gilmore, among many others.
In 2015, she was appointed Costume Director of Opera Graz. At Opera Graz, she has also been designing costumes, primarily for ballet productions. This role has allowed her to continue her collaboration with Marguerite Donlon in Graz and at Ballet X in Philadelphia, and to begin new collaborations with Iratxe Ansa/Igor Bakovich, Pablo Girolami, Beate Vollack, and Helge Letonja. In the coming season, she will collaborate with Nicolas Blanc, Iratxe Ansa/Igor Bakovich and Jann Gallois at the Ballet of Toulouse, as well as with Maguerite Donlon at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Ljubljana.
