Lukas Zuschlag

Lukas Zuschlag was born in Feldkirchen, Austria. He joined our theatre in 2004, became a soloist in 2007, and was later promoted to principal soloist. Throughout his career, he has performed numerous leading roles in ballet productions, including Romeo (Romeo and Juliet), Zhivago (Doctor Zhivago), Franc (Coppélia in Montmartre), Tristan (Tristan and Isolde), Albrecht (Giselle), James (La Sylphide), Rothbart (Swan Lake), the Prince (Cinderella), Espada (Don Quixote), Packo (Picko and Packo), Scrooge (The Nutcracker – A Christmas Story), the Mouse Prince (Who Is the Strongest in the World?), George B. Wilson (The Great Gatsby), and Duende (María de Buenos Aires).

For his artistic achievements, he has received several prestigious awards, including the professional Lidia Wisiak Award, the Guest Star Award, and the Austrian Kulturförderpreis for achievements in the performing arts.

Alongside his dancing career, he has devoted many years to choreography and teaching, both in Slovenia and internationally. As a choreographer, he has collaborated on numerous opera productions at his home theatre, including Otello, Ksenija/Carmina Burana, The Bartered Bride, Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Code L, The Italian Girl in Algiers, Die Fledermaus, Requiem, Stabat Mater, Manon Lescaut, and others.

For the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, he created choreography for the operetta Die Fledermaus and the opera Orpheus and Eurydice. In Ostrava, he contributed to the Czech premiere of the co-production The Bartered Bride and Monteverdi’s opera Il ballo delle ingrate.

In 2024, he designed the choreography for the stage performance and music video of Slovenian Eurovision representative Raiven, and created his first full-length choreographic work — the children’s ballet The Little Prince, set to music by Aleksandra Naumovski Potisk.

Since March 2025, he has served as Artistic Director of the Ballet at SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana.
