Filippo Jorio

Filippo Jorio was born in Turin, Italy. He began his ballet studies at the age of 8 at various private ballet schools in Turin, and from 2010 he studied under Oxana Kichenko. During these years, he perfected his technique at various ballet seminars in Italy and abroad, such as the International Dance Seminar in Komiža, the Nina Soldun International Dance Seminar with teachers from the Vaganova Academy in Rapallo, Bolshoi Ballet Academy seminars in Turin, and the Bolshoi Summer Intensive at the academy in Moscow.

In 2012, he auditioned for the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart, where he was accepted and later graduated in 2014. During his years in Stuttgart, Filippo studied under Tadeusz Matacz, Dimitri Magitov, and Sarah Abendroth, and he performed in the academy’s productions, including Allegro Brillante by Balanchine, Simple Symphony by Alastair Marriott, and Ryu by Kinsun Chan.

In September 2014, he joined the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana (Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana) as a member of the corps de ballet. In April 2015, he was promoted to demi-soloist, and in January 2022 he was promoted to ballet soloist.

With the Slovenian National Ballet, he has had the opportunity to dance a wide range of roles, from corps de ballet to soloist and principal roles. Some of his notable solo roles include Albrecht and Peasant Pas de Deux (Giselle), the Prince and the Devil (Nutcracker), Basilio (Don Quixote), Lankedem (Le Corsaire), Bluebird Pas de Deux (Sleeping Beauty), Mercutio and Benvolio (Romeo and Juliet), the Fox (The Little Prince), Packo (Picko Packo), Peter (Peter and the Wolf), Lok Pas de Deux (Ballet 100), Leichtes Blut (Alles Walzer), and Pas de Trois (Swan Lake).

He has also performed in various galas, dancing Pas d’Esclave Pas de Deux, Giselle Pas de Deux, Bayadère Pas de Deux, and Bluebird Pas de Deux. He has taken part in all the company’s international tours, performing in Bonn, Sarajevo, Brno, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Bogotá for FITBogota, Astana for the Eurasian Dance Festival, Trieste, Klagenfurt, Madrid, Granada, and Murcia. Furthermore, he has performed in operas such as Madama Butterfly, The Bat, Carmen, The Land of Smiles, and in contemporary projects such as Globina Pogleda, choreographed by Kristina Aleksova.

In July 2021, he was awarded the bronze medal at the International Ballet Competition Slavenska in Zagreb, where he performed Pas d’Esclave Pas de Deux and a contemporary piece of his own creation entitled Catch. In 2024, he danced alongside the singer Raiven at the Eurovision Song Contest under the choreographic direction of Lukas Zuschlag.
