Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana is permeated with love, jealousy, violence and honour. Even in musical terms, the work is filled with themes reflecting the events, imbued with passion and the feeling of drama. This one-act opera was inspired by the literary source of the same name or the dramatic text by Giovanni Verge, based on a real event.   

To round off the evening is a staging of one of the most celebrated musical and theatrical works. The scenic cantata Carmina Burana, which marked the birth of Carl Orff's distinctly personal artistic style, was first performed in Frankfurt in 1937 and bestowed upon the composer immediate fame.
