CARMNE SPLET

Georges Bizet

Carmen

Opera in Four Acts

PREMIERE: 21. 1. 2027

Carmen is widely regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces in the operatic repertoire. Through his strikingly realistic musical language, Georges Bizet fashioned a work of compelling passion and drama, whose emotional power and unforgettable musical imagery continue to captivate audiences to this day.

Based on Prosper Mérimée's novella, the opera unfolds a world of untamed passion, desire, and fate. At its heart stands Carmen – a mysterious, free-spirited, and seductive woman who deftly defies social conventions and eludes the possessive gaze of men.

In her new production, Caterina Panti Liberovici explores Carmen as a symbol of the projections, desires, and fears of the contemporary world. Suspended between reality and illusion, freedom and control, an eternal struggle between identity, power, and destiny unfolds before the audience.
