Although published in 1943, the themes addressed by the novella The Little Prince by the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry remain relevant. Since its appearance, this book has accompanied many generations and encouraged us to find its vision of human values within ourselves.
A pilot crashes his plane into a lonely desert, where he meets a little prince who left his home planet, where he was tending to his rose, and decided to explore space. On his journey through the planets, he meets people who embody one of the problematic themes of human society: from a king without subjects to a businessman who wants to record and appropriate all the stars in the sky instead of stopping to admire them. The prince meets a fox and a mysterious snake and spends a few days full of trials with the pilot; during this time, the prince and the pilot, each in his way and together, discover what it means to be human.
The literary masterpiece has undergone countless translations, and there is probably no bookshelf anywhere in the world where it did not find its place. It was an inspiration for many in the visual, stage and film creativity. Our ballet version addresses loneliness, friendship, love and loss. Although illogical and phantasy at first glance, the narrative contrasts the world of children's imagination with the rationality of adults. It was conceived as a collective work; with this performance, the artists take the audience of all generations to »the theatre of the planet«, the magical world, and everyday life. The Little Prince is an autobiographical story; in this sense, it still ruffles feathers and remains mysterious. At the same time, it is also a universal message about the truth – it is not always within reach and not self-evident – to get to know it, we have to look with different eyes
