Richard Wagner’s Music Drama Tristan and Isolde at SNG Opera and Ballet Also on 9 February 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
Due to the exceptional response from both the domestic and international public and the high demand for tickets, SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana has added an additional performance of Richard Wagner’s music drama Tristan and Isolde, directed by Robert Wilson, to its programme. The additional performance will take place on Monday, 9 February 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
February in Ljubljana will be marked by one of the most significant operatic events of our time. The eagerly awaited premiere of Wagner’s masterpiece Tristan and Isolde, which will open on 5 February, is not merely a new production but a historic artistic event of global importance. The production is directed by Robert Wilson, one of the most influential and visionary figures of contemporary theatre. This is both his first and his final staging of this work, which lends the project exceptional symbolic, artistic, and emotional weight.
Wagner’s drama Tristan and Isolde is regarded as one of the pinnacles of Western musical and artistic culture and as a work that changed the course of music history. This monumental production brings together the forces of four distinguished European opera houses: La Monnaie in Brussels, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Wrocław Opera, and SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana. Such a partnership unmistakably places Ljubljana alongside Europe’s major cultural centres and confirms its status as a city where the most important artistic events of our time are created.
Wilson’s distinctive aesthetic poetics—abstract, precise, and free of psychological realism—allow Wagner’s music and the legendary story to come alive in all their inner power and transcendence. This is a production that goes beyond the traditional theatrical experience and inscribes itself in the history of opera.
Performances at SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana will take place between 5 and 16 February 2026. Due to the length of the opera, which lasts approximately five hours, all performances will begin at 5:00 p.m. During the intervals, audiences will be offered a carefully curated culinary experience by Slovenian chef Mojmir Šiftar, rounding off the evening as a complete artistic experience.
Tickets are available at the theatre box office and on the website www.opera.si
