Juan Vasle

Bass baritone Juan Vasle, a principal of the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana (Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He earned his diploma in singing at the Colón Theatre's High Institute of Art in Buenos Aires. In 1988 he was a finalist of the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in Philadelphia, USA.

He has been a member of the soloist ensemble of the Ljubljana Opera Theatre since 1990. Since then he has created an enviable number of bass-baritone roles: Zaccaria (Nabucco), Lindorf, Coppelius, Dappertutto, Miracle (The Tales of Hoffmann), Don Alfonso (Cosí fan tutte (Women are Like That)), Ferrando (Troubadour), Escamillo (Carmen), Don Basilio (The Barber of Seville), Martin Krpan (Krpan's Mare), Ramfis (Aida) ... He has toured Australia, Brazil, Czechia, Croatia, Italy, Canada, Kosovo, Germany, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and USA. He has been also frequently giving concerts and recitals. The respected singer has released six CD's, three of which were dedicated to Slovenian songs and folk songs, and the other three to South American songs, Christmas songs and opera arias. Among his achievements is also a book Singers are Human Beings Too (presenting 24 interviews with opera and concert singers). In 2010 he received the Betteto Award, awarded by the Slovenian Music Artists Association.
