Galya Todorova Gorcheva

Soprano Galya Todorova Gorcheva studied at the Academy of Music in Sofia (Bulgaria), where she also earned her Master's Degree. During her studies she frequently performed in the Big Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory (as Countess in The Marriage of Figaro) and sang as a guest performer on a concert tour in France, at the famous Gavo Hall in Paris, where she joined Veselina Kasarova.

From 1988 to 1997 she was a soloist in the State Opera in Ruse (Bulgaria), where she created the following roles: Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Aida, Leonora (Il trovatore (The Troubadour)), Abigaille (Nabucco), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Elizabeth (Tannhäuser), Mimi (La bohème) and Tosca. In the same period of time she appeared as a guest performer on the stages of all the seven opera theatres in Bulgaria. She also held regular concerts with the Philharmonic Orchestras in Ruse, Varna and Sofia.

In the following years she sang the roles of Abigaille, Aida, Tosca and Leonora on the opera stages around the world - in Estonia (for two theatre seasons in Tallinn), Switzerland, Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and toured with the Euro Stage Company around Belgium, Netherlands, Spain and France. She regularly sang at the HNK (Croatian National Theatre) in Zagreb, creating in the period from 2001 to 2006 such roles as: Leonora (La forza del destino (The Power of Fate), Abigaille and Aida. She appeared as Leonora in the filmed version of the opera Il trovatore (The Troubadour), produced by the Croatia Film. In 2004 she sang the soprano part in the Beethoven's Symphony No 9 at the Lisinski Hall in Zagreb under the baton of Maestro Vjekoslav Šutej.

She appeared for three seasons in a row at the Autumn Festival in La Rochelle as Senta (The Flying Dutchman), in Verdi's Requiem and Poulenc's Stabat Mater as well as at the Toscana Opera Festival as Aida, Tosca and Leonora.

She has also performed on some finest concert stages singing solo parts in such pieces as Stabat Mater (Pergolesi), Requiem (Verdi), Solemn Mass (Gounod), Mass in G major (Schubert).

In 2001 she joined the opera ensemble of the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana (Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana), where she was first engaged as a soloist, and later on, from 2007 to 2015 as a principal. In this theatre she successfully created the following leading roles: Leonora (Il trovatore (The Troubadour)), Abigaille (Nabucco), Norma, Madalena (Andrea Chenier), Yaroslavna (Prince Igor), Manon Lescaut, Amelia (A Masked Ball), Countess (The Marriage of Figaro). In 2009 she sang Lisa in The Queen of Spades at the Maribor Opera. She was promoted to distinguished soloist of the Ljubljana Opera Theatre in 2015.
