  • Classical Story Ballet in Three Acts, Co-production between the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana and Cankarjev dom LjubljanaI
  • Premiere: 14. 1. 2021

This great co-production between the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana and Cankarjev dom Ljubljana, due in January 2021, sets itself to stage one of the most popular ballets in the post-war Russian ballet repertoire. Depicting the character of a rebellious gladiator that fights against the slaveholding oligarchy, the Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian successfully captured the artistic stance of the Soviet 1950s, while at the same time also attracted by the ancient context of the story and the universality of the struggle for the personal and collective freedom. Spartacus is an ambitious stage work that highlights the virtues of the male part of the ballet ensemble. Its new artistic interpretation will be entrusted to Jiří Bubeníček, a choreographer of concise content coverage and original contemporary sensitivity.
